Today, the journey takes you to Ancient Greece – history and culture – with a photo stop at the Corinth Canal. It reaches Epidaurus, the birthplace of medicine.

The famous Theater of Asclepius is one of the oldest monuments of ancient Hellas. It was around 340 BC. Has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. Epidaurus is considered one of the best preserved ancient theaters in Greece. With 55 rows of seats and 14,000 spectators, it is also one of the largest amphitheaters in general. When you stand in front of it for the first time, you will be overwhelmed by the dimensions! The theater has excellent acoustics, so you can hear every word, even from the top rows. This is probably achieved by the downwardly curved shape of the seat stones. A popular “acoustic test” in the theater of Epidaurus is dropping a coin on the stone slab in the center of the stage ring, which can easily be heard by the top tier.

Day 4

Mystras in the afternoon will visit "The Last Byzantine Flower“.

A place where time seems to stop Mystras is one of the most exciting and dramatic historical parts of the Peloponnese. A deliciously cool place nestled at the foot of 280 meters of Taygetos. The lush slope of the hill is a remarkable Byzantine city that once housed a population of about 20,000 and is now accessible for walking. Helicic streets drive through monumental gates, pass through medieval houses and palaces, and especially in churches, some of which present wonderful, though faded, frescoes. Start an extensive tour of discovery in architecture, painting and sculpture – and at a different era with a dramatically different mentality.

Mystras is a unique example of a Byzantine fortified city whose walls remain intact. Its location is excellent, offering spectacular views of the Eurotas valley and Sparta from a steep hill of Taygetos. The Byzantine churches, the monasteries, the ruined palaces and the houses testify to its old glory as the original capital of Moria, the ancient name of the Peloponnese.

The day ends at a hotel in the Kalamata area.
