About the Excursion
Starting from your hotel, your coach takes you to the traditional old village of Gastouri for a visit to the Achilleion Palace, which was built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria in 1890. Have a look at the wonderful garden and enjoy the romantic view.
Then you visit a traditional Corfiot distillery, producing kumquat liqueur, ouzo, and interesting local wines, which you can sample. See a 5-minute-long documentary about the process of producing this liquor, or buy some for your family as a souvenir from Corfu.
You are driven to one of the most beautiful spots on the island, Paleokastrisa. You visit the Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin and its small museum, which houses a priceless collection of Byzantine icons and church relics. After, we have a very interesting tour of the picturesque coastline of Palaiokastritsa and a visit to the well-known monastery there. On the way to Bella Vista, up the hill, you will have a chance to look at the magnificent view of Palaiokastritsa with its bays.
After passing the village of Makrades and Panteleimon Hill, from which you can see the north and south parts of the island, we’ll travel back to our hotels.
You also have free time for shopping before boarding your coach again for your return transfer back to your hotel.
Bring a camera and film, and wear comfortable clothing & shoes. Please note that sleeveless blouses and short pants are not allowed in monasteries & churches.
